A fellow plumber in need ..

Hey Guys, So many times the Wall has gotten together and helped out a fellow trademan in need, well I thought I would bring this to your attention

I will be asking my local PHCC membership to donate funds to this cause tonight. I will be sending money myself. This man has allways been fair when doing inspection and has allway been proffesional.

Please read this article that was in the local papers here. If we all sent a litte something we could help a fellow trademans who is down on his luck.

" Family rallies for man who lives for helping others "

ESSEX | When Mark Osborn was in the eighth grade, he spent each day after school standing by the side of the road, thumbing for a ride to Gloucester.
The Essex native played football with the freshman class at Gloucester High School more than 30 years ago but had no way to get to practice.
So he hitchhiked there each afternoon and instead of telling coaches his legitimate excuse for being late, he ran laps and kept quiet.
"He never explained why he was late. He just accepted their punishment," said his older brother, Richard Osborn. "That's just how Mark is. He would never enlighten anyone else; he just accepts his plight, whatever it is."
So it came as no surprise to Richard or any of Osborn's other six siblings when he did not ask for their help after he was diagnosed with leukemia last year.
Osborn, who serves as plumbing inspector for both Essex and Boxford, had been sick for about five or six years, but doctors only recently diagnosed his illness and arranged for the bone marrow transplant that saved his life, Richard said.
"I just think he has an issue about asking for help," said Paul Osborn, who donated the bone marrow to his older brother on May 25. "He's the first one to help anyone else out."
On top of fighting the disease, Osborn was also busy playing the role of a single father and trying to support his two children, the oldest of whom is 21.
Osborn's wife was in a serious car accident from which she never recovered. The couple's two children were only 2 and 3 years old at the time of the crash 18 years ago, which left their mother permanently brain-damaged. She now lives in a group home.
Through it all, Osborn adopted one of his sister-in-law's children following her death a few years ago and took care of a second handicapped child for a little more than one year.
"He's always there to lend a hand when someone else is in trouble," Richard said. "There are people who just care so much about people they know. That's Mark."
Paul said what many don't know is that Mark, even though he is dealing with his own financial difficulties, continues to cook meals in his home and deliver them to older and needy residents in town.
"Mark would never tell anyone that he did things like that," Richard said. "The recognition isn't something that he wants or needs."
Because of doctor visits, the surgery and recuperation, Osborn has spent nearly two years away from his job. The bills | which include college tuition at Fitchburg State College for his oldest son, Karl | are piling up. Doctors have recommended he not return to work for at least one year.
"It's not that he won't be able to go back to work. It's just that he's unable to," said Richard.
Now friends and family members are giving Osborn the help he would never dream of requesting. A committee has been formed and has planned a string of fundraisers to help ease some of the financial difficulty for Osborn and his children.
They have deemed the projects "The Cause for Oz, Ozzie's Fund."
The first fundraiser, a Texas hold 'em poker tournament, is scheduled for Friday, July 15, in the Essex Room at Woodman's Function Hall, starting at 6 p.m. The tournament entry fee is $100 and all players must be 18 or older. There will also be raffles and prize giveaways during the night.
A golf tournament at the Cape Ann Golf Course is planned for Sept. 19 and collection jars will be placed at several businesses throughout town. Other fundraisers are in the works and will be announced when plans are formalized.
"He's an Essex person that's grown up and spent much of his life here," said Richard. "Mark is what Essex is all about. He's the kind of person that makes Essex a great place to live."

All pre-registrations for the Texas hold 'em tournament must be received by tomorrow. For more information on the events planned or to donate prizes for the raffles, call (508) 317-3257.

Checks should be made out to The Cause for Oz, Ozzie's Fund, P.O. Box 742, Essex, MA 01929.

    Last night at

our local PHCC meeting I read this article and asked that we send something. It was voted to take some of the proceeds from our golf outing to help out. This is our largest fund raiser.

Ten dollars from ten people makes a difference. See what you can do .

    Donation

    Hello,

It never ceases to amaze me what some people can endure, and continue to help others, it won't be too big, but a check will be in the mail tonight. Plus my beautiful Boxer is named Ozzie.

    Best wishes,
    Bill
