Atleast I think it was the same story, regardless it was no laughing matter. It is just shy of criminal that the least qualified among us (maintenance personal) are incharge of the school district's mechanical systems. Not trying to degrade the school district's personal, but come on we're talking about some serious life threatening equipment, the requirement's for employment to the school district in my area leaves alot to be desired for, again it all comes down to budget's. It's not right.

Reminds me
of a video that Watts Regulator had out in the 70's showing a 30 gallon heater set to "runaway" in the basement of an abandoned 3 story tenement. That puppy went clean through the roof and beyond!

fun stuff!
It's interesting... putting the heater in a hole makes a crude cannon of it. Aiming it might be difficult though ;~)

Water heater danger video
Watts has a 15 minute vhs presentation originally done back in the 30's or 40's. I bought a copy to show the class I teach on Home Mechanical Systems. The tape is a great laugh with excellent technical data and when everyone is done laughing at how stupid we used to be, I put up a picture and news article from 2002 about a W/H going thru a roof and onto the neighbors yard. No one was killed but it was close. No, the Watt's tape is not free.0 -
Thanks
Thanks David.
It says that it was a 12 gallon heater, so that must have been just a small bang!
