Eminent Domain

In our area the local townships and county have been claiming E.D. to obstensibly to protect "open Space". Trouble is, they in turn sell parts of the land to developers for anything but "open space". Alot of people make a lot of money by this practice. Would be nice to know who is making that money.

Eminent Domain
I know that Dave Yates started a thread on the Eminent Domain mess a week or so ago and this may be old news that I'm sharing.
There is a company that is putting together an effort to take Justice David Souter's property for a hotel. Go to www.freestarmedia.com to read what this is about. I hope that the guy is successful and can dish out some justice to these people that don't have enough sense to pour pee out of a boot.

I suspect,
with Sandra Day O'Connor leaving and Renquist not far behind, that decision may be reversed when the changes happen. The twisted unconstitutional "logic" that was applied to the notion of ED was so bizaar as to be laughable.
I suggest the extremely tortured reasoning used to arrive at that narrow decision will collapse under national scrutiny and the new justices. Time will tell however.

I've said it before
and I'll say it again: If your government is abusing eminent domain, vote the **** out! If your state allows recall elections this might be a good time for one.All Steamed Up, Inc.

sandra Day O'conner was one of the strongest dissenting voices on that decision. This is a change in the wrong direction with her retirement.0 -
What ever happened
to the right to own private property?
There was an article in the local paper yeaterday about a farmer in NW CT. This guy has the gaul to want to keep his farm a farm. Isn't that his right to happiness?
He owns and maintains his farm and has no desire to change anything. He is constantly bombarded by developers and politicians who want to help him out. He has repeatedly told them to get lost. In the meantime the town planners are drawing up land usage plans for HIS property. What nerve! If this isn't harassment what is?
Just another case of the political types who know whats best for us.0 -
Its disgusting.....but remember......
We can't just "vote out" Supreme Court Justices...we basically have to wait for them to die. A very scary ruling. Mad Dog

When I say \"Vote them Out\"
I mean the local yokels who think they can take anything they want. All Steamed Up, Inc.

I don't know whos big brother
you're talking about. Certainly not my big brother. Here in Minnesota we can't even keep the government running. They couldn't agree on a budget here so about 9000 of my co-workers are out of work. This eminent domain thing has opened lots of eyes lately but I don't think it's anything new. The fat cats have been in bed with politicians for as long as there have been politicians. I say vote the bums out..................
Larry (from OSHA)0 -
it's more than the bums, the whole system is shot.
I say vote the system out. Push for true democracy. But the only people who care about it these days are third-parties.
It's time.. past time, IMHO.. to kill the two-party system.0 -
Local Yokels
are the root of the problem.
My town has about 10,000 people. You would think the 1st selectman was commander of the free world. Cuts back room deals, tells everyone what they want hear and so on.
Guess what? Nobody wants his job. His term is up this fall. Let's see if the opposing party has a viable candidate.

But wait
It wasn't locals that made the ruling Frank, it was the United States Supreme Court. A NON-elected branch of the federal government.
Somehow they came to this conclusion. I know that you and I agree that they are wrong and I will stand by you to fight this idiotic ruling.
Is this the first time they made a mistake?

If O'Conner and Rehnquist retire..............
What are your collective thoughts on the "type" of person who would reverse the ED (that could be a pun) thing. Liberal, Conservative, Moderate??
BTW, I'm not trying to start a war here. I enjoy our Wall discussions on topics such as this as much as I do the ones regarding hydronics.0 -
The "type" would be a Constitutionalist. One that rules based on the Constitution and not on any extraneous interpretations of what "is good for us". Read Mark Levin's latest and get a feel for yourselves what an activist court has done, and continues to do.

What I'd truly like to see???
An up or down vote preiod!!! I just hope our elected officials will leave the posturing out of it. FAT CHANCE of that happening.0 -
Polics makes for strange bedfellows.............................
I have a feeling we'll be banding together with quite a few disparate groups to decapitate this ugly, out of control monster. "WE SHALL OVERCOME!!!!!!" Mad Dog
