B & G 100 or Taco 007

of the Blood and Guts 100 compared to all the Taco dubble ot line. At 10 GPM (approximate average mid range GPM for both), the 007 is "stronger".

Strength, like all other things hydronics, "Depends!"

You have to decide where it will be operating, and then decide if it's strengths are right for YOUR application.

BTW, define strength for me as it pertains to your original question. Do you mean Guppies Per Minute (GPM), or heat of fead, er is that feet of head.

The first time someone mentioned feet of head to me, I had this flash in my mind of a man standing there trying to touch his foot to his head (TRY IT!), and I haven't been the same since...I know it can be done, but not by this cowboy:-)

BTW, when is a pump working the hardest. When it is at shut off head, or no head at all? Think it over before you answer. The key word is "work".

"Strong", like OX? Or "Dumb", like BUll?....That is the question..........What is the head?, BTU?, Application?, .........Et Cettera, Et cettera, Et Cettera. But for my shop it's 007, more reliable, easier to service, less servicible parts, sort of a unibody effect, and I like the curve better. But what do I know, I'm just a plumber.

    Depends..........................

Look and see which you pick...;-) The B&G is more forgiving, providing more flow, but will not give the head you are looking for. It all depends on the system and dynamics that you are working with. Almost like saying that I knocked out a 240lb man so I must be stronger at 185lbs. Not so but I knew where to hit him and I can run faster the he can..;--). I hope that wasen't stupid..... If so it wouldn't be the first time....;-) Quiet Mad Dog...........

  • I HAVE BEEN

I have been staying away from B&G products with bearing assys as I believe they are 100% crapola... The bearing assy of any sizes never seemed to last more that 2 heating seasons, no matter how u baby it... I've been to heating systems that stills have the orginal bearing assys running while the newer verisons been replaced numberus times...

    Okay

    If work = output

Then I would have to say the most work is done with no head.

okay that sounds like my helper

First time I heard of "feet of head" I thought....okay back in the old days they used the human anatomy to create a standard of measurement. So they must have taken some dude's head and stuck it in a pipe. Then they turned on the water and how far it flew out the pipe was how many feet of head you had.

Or was that the story of how the potato cannon was first built in France, during the revolution. They ran out of detached heads from the guillotines, and started using potatoes.

Lunch is over... back to see the progress today

    Taco 007 is maintenance free

Both pumps have similar curves, and will work fine in your system. Perhaps, you can compare the pumps attributes, as opposed to strength, which is not commonly used for comparison. The B&G pump will need periodic maintenance based on the manufactures recommended maintenance schedule, and the Taco 007 is maintenance free, with a replaceable cartridge. Additionally, you can compare the pumps by cost, and that may impact your buying decision.

    Pump selection....

I also like the Taco "00" series due to the smaller profile. I am surprised that B&G still continues with the Series #100 especially when they have slimmed down with the NRF, and other like style pumps.
