Curious on a hot summer day.

What do you most like to talk to homeowners about when it comes to new heating products?
    Retired and loving it.

    If your enthusiastic enough

they'll listen, most of the time.

I like mod/com boilers and reset, outdoor and indoor. Outdoor reset is the easyest to tell them about and its always a money saver.

Then we talk about radiant ....... aaahhhhhh....

on them & what they say to give me clues about their interests. Every sales call looks like a road map in my mind. Destination unknown! I know all the way points - they give me clues for directions. Getting there is both fun and a challenge.

Most folks are centered on their fuel bills, so hi-e products are a no-brainer. I've been going on a lot of heating estimates & there's a good deal of interest in options for upgrades in auxillary add-ons to help air quality. More than a few radiant quotes going out the door & one today for an all-elec rad job. Mini-split heat pumps and A/C units are hot too. Last, but not least, there's solid interest in solar.

One thing I find customers talking more & more about with me ( & sometimes at me) is the idea of multi-fuel systems. In particular, wood-fired boilers. In the Adirondacks wood has always been a part of heat. The problem is getting good units to use for these applications. Some still show the pump on the return. If someone could come up with a multi-fuel boiler really suited for hydronic heating (and I am sure someone has) I'd love to see it.

    I should rephrase that

on sales calls they are receptive. In service situations there is not the level of interest you would expect,I was on a service call yesterday with a 25 year old steel dry base boiler with a 50 gal electric HWH.I suggested a boiler/indirect/reset pkg. Answer? Too much money! Suggested an indirect and controls.Answer? Still too much! BTW electricity is 17c /KWH here, but an indirect is too much?

    Geothermal & Solar ....

Seems to be growing more and more in my area.We are using water-to-water heat pumps for the radiant side of things and water-to-air to do the air conditioning and supplemental heating.Team that up with some solar domestic water heating and now that's impressive.

    Fuel saving controls,

Hands down an easy and important point of sale. We're trying to give anyone who'll listen outdoor reset and the most fuel stingy equipment we can.

Like Mr. Yates, we're seeing much interest in lower fuel bills and a small surge in radiant installs. Chris

Like the old saying goes, You can lead a horse to water............. Maybe you weren't dealing with a horse though. If they are paying 17 cents per KWH and they can't see the sense in changing their present system, maybe your customer is a different equine variety....hint....it rhymes with bass.

    Sorry :o

    Summer Demonstrations to Contractors

    *Tekmar TN4

    *Buderus GB142

    *Triangle Tube Prestige

*Due to the dramatic increase in copper prices, we are currently selling Aquapex at a record rate.

Looks the this upcoming heating season the "techies" are going to come out of the wood-work...
