I have a V85 Steam boiler to pipe. I can get by with a 2" header. Other than a little more cost, I would like to increase it 1 size to 2 1/2. Good idea or no?

Definitely
increase the size of the boiler main if you can . I believe one 2 inch riser is the minimum up to the V86 . Although it isn't required , Burnham recommends using both 2 inch tappings on the boiler . With a steamer that size I would recommend using the 2nd tapping also . Please take some pics Cap'n . It's been a while since I've installed a steamer ........0 -
The bigger steam chamber will add to the drying of the steam, if your going with the two risers like ron said (and he's right on the money ) do a drop header it make the conections so much easyer,
hey ronjr we doin a steamer this year for oil heat cares??? realy looking forward to it!just buffed up the old pipe wrenches LOL...David
