New Propress Jaws ???

I went on the Ridgid Propress Website and they specifically state that the new propress XL-C copper fittings 2 1/2"-4" will only work with the new XL-C jaws and XL-C actuator ring. The pressing tool is the same but new jaws and new actuator ring will be needed to install the new fittings and will not work on the older brass type fittings.

And we just bought a second set of XL jaws a month ago which now will be useless.

I read in "HVAC INSIDER" that Viega is changing the 2 1/2" -4" Pro press fitting design from the brass type fittings to the copper fittings (similar to those used in the smaller sizes)

Apparently the larger fittings (called XL) now will be called XL-C.

Looks like new jaws will be needed and we just bought our second pair of XL (expensive) jaws.

I'm sure the brass type fittings will be discontinued and the supply houses will not carry both types of fittings.

Anyone have more or better information on this???

    Thanks,

    Ebebratt,
I had a talk recently with a viega rep and he informed me that they were discontinueing all cast fittings and going to copper.

    jaws

    EBEBRATT ,

I would think the thicker profile of cast fittings would require a different jaw then the copper fittings. I'm not sure but that's my best guess.

    New Jaws!

I was perusing a recent issue of Contractor magazine and saw a Ridgid ad regarding the change from cast brass to wrought copper in the 2.5" and larger fittings, and the newly designed jaws for the crimper. The ad didn't make clear as to whether or not the new jaws would be required for the newly designed fittings. However, it promoted the fact that the new jaws can be pivoted in order to get them into tight quarters. Maybe this is the only difference? So, I'm not sure that the older model jaws wouldn't work on the new fittings. Perhaps a Ridgid rep could clearify for us?

    Jaws

They should have a buy back policy. Melt down the old to make the new.

    Propress

Victaulic has a new fitting out (well, new to me)that doesn't require any tools-insert, twist-there ya go. Approved in Chicago-interesting to see if they take off. We use the Propress too- the price of the attachments is CARAZY!

    Thank's for verifying.

Thank's for verifying that Ed. I guess it's like everything else high tech, computors, TV's, etc, scrap it and start over! Hey what's a grand or so for high tech! Imagine doing a job until after all the cast brass inventory is depleted. You'll get 2 of cast brass 3 or 4 of wrought copper in your order. Keep both sets of jaws on the truck!!!
