New Radiator Smell
Richard Case
Member Posts: 2
We just had a new radiator installed in our baby's room (in ana partment, very small room). The radiator is not painted, but does have primer on it (making it look a dull grey). The smell is HORRIBLE! How long will this last, and if we coat it with an oil-based paint, will that mask the smell of the primer (we understand it will smell of paint for a few days)? We have been told by the plumber who installed it that the smell will last for ther entire season, so we have just shut it off. Feeling very silly for paying for a new radiator we aren't using--any tips on how we can get rid of the smell ASAP.
Thanks.
Thanks.

are you sure...
the smell is primer and not pipe dope? Depending on the type of dope that was used on the fittings, the plumber's right, it very well could smell the entire season.
If it is primer, the smell should go away much quicker than that, maybe a week or two.
Sounds to me like pipe dope, though.

Thanks for the reply--it smells like burning tires--does that sound more like pipe dope or primer?0 -
Why not...
...keep it on during the day when the baby's playing outside the room. The smell will burn off in a few weeks.0
