beckets heat manager

Check the serial number. I was told that the first 4 numbers are the date code. Numbers that start with 0410 or lower are suspect.

It's great when it's working properly. Too bad that's not very often.

I've had one installed since Dec 17th, and so far its stopped working 5 times. The first time, it prevented the burner from firing so the house started to cool down. Luckly I was home at the time to reset it. The other 4 times, it shut itself down and went into bypass mode, allowing the boiler to fire as it used to.

Basically all it does is create a bigger differential. If your aquastat is already capable of between 20 and 30F, there really isn't a need for the HeatManager. The other thing to do would be to install a buffer tank.
If my unit goes down one more time, I'll be sending it back and piping in a 30 gal buffer tank instead.

It does a little more than that. I have quite a few installed and have only had a problem with one.
The unit senses water temp 3-4 times a second and calculates supply temp drop when burner is off after hitting high limit. By watching the temperature drop it is matching supply water temp to needs. If the supply temp starts dropping too fast it will fire back up. It will not allow the water to drop below a given temp. I believe it may be 135º.
It also has a sensor for domestic hot water coils. If using the Heat Manager on an indirect do not use the domestic water sensor. I have had mine installed about 2 years without 1 problem. I estimated about a 17% fuel savings. The boiler is properly sized but I have 5 zones including indirect water heater. The heat manager was designed I believe for oversized and zoned boilers which are oversized even if properly sized.

We have also sold several Beckett Heat Managers. We have has great feedback on this product. We did have one warranty that Beckett honored right away. Beckett has been very helpful with any questions we have had. Just call 1-800-OIL-BURN to speak with Beckett direct.

    Caution

Make sure your aquastat is acurate. If it is out of calibration it will mess with the operation of the heat manager.

My understanding is that something like this can happen if the Low setting is set too high -- it shouldn't be set above 145 or so. Where is your low setting now?

It's installed on a Vaillant F100 boiler with a cold start aquastat (8148).

I got home last week Friday from a week long trip, and it was again in bypass (6th time). I reset it and it has worked fine since then.

I havn't had a chance to call Beckett yet, but I will shortly and see what they want to do about it.
