Indirect Water Heater Mixing Vlave

You may also need a heat trap loop between the water heater and mixing valve. We have used this valve and it works quiet well. We some times get problem cases that you may need to set and watch for hours to find what is happening.

Mixing Valves on Indirect Water Heater
We have a taco 50000 series manual mixing valve set at 120 degrees off an indirect water heater with a recirculation line piped with a brass circulator at the return side of the water heater. Customer complains very high water temperature comes out for several seconds before water drops to the 120 degree set point. Taco tech support indicated this can happen because mixing valve only reactive to fairly high flow rates.
We have lots of mixing valves in the field working but very few with recirculation lines.
Has any one else seen this problem, any solutions? Any other brands that work besides a commercial mixing valve. Any input or suggestion welcome Bob

Taco, 5000 series mixing valve
Perhaps I can shed some light on this higher temperature output when using the 5000 series mixing valve in a domestic water recirculation loop. Some reconfiguration of piping needs to be taken into consideration when installing any thermostatically controlled mixing valve in a domestic water application. For your reference I have attached a piping diagram that will remedy the problem of temperature rise when there is no load at point of use. What happens is the water temperature on the cold side will continue to rise as high as the hot side temperature, because the water is not being used and redirected to the cold side inlet of the valve causing both inlets H/C to see the same temperature. When someone opens a faucet, the mix temperature will be hotter then the set point temperature.

mixing valves
Have had trouble with taco mixing valves not hold the tempurature settings. Started using Symmons 5-130CK, haven't had any problem with this mixing valve0
