Entran II ??

I have a customer with rubber tubing in a slab that appears to be clogged. It is orange on the outside and is ribbed. Very little of it is exposed. There are five loops off the manifold. When I open the union on the return manifold I get little more than a trickle coming back. Is clogging one of the problems associated with Entran II?
How can I positively identify it as Entran II? Is there still any settlement available? And most importantly; How can I help this customer?

There may have been glycol at one time, although no one labled the boiler for it. Does the description sound like Entran tubing? I have encountered this tubing clogged twice before.

    Well

Heatway made a bunch of tubing. Entran 1, Entran 2, Twintran.......

Flow issues tell me that there was a freeze protectant in the system that has been neglected for a while. It is attacking the system and you need to clean it out.. The Entran 2 issues can be laid directly at the feet of GoodYear. They screwed up the mix.

Rhomar Water makes EXCELLENT treatments! Flush the system with that and then treat it.

Look hard at whether the system needs freeze protection or not. Most do not.

I would say this system does not need antifreeze. BUT...
What has occurred in the tubing as a result of antifreeze in it? If I have such little flow it's not too promising that I can flush it effectively. Some of the loops may be completely clogged. Is this treatment akin to acid cleaning a dhw coil in a boiler?
I have, like I said, encountered this twice before but was not around to see the problem resolved. The first was in the garage floor of my previous employer's home. All four loops completely plugged- no flow. The 2nd was a badly done staple up job with 3 of 5 plugged.
I thought it may have been from oxidation in the boiler, but was recently told about rubber tubing (Entran II) deteriorating.

    Actually yes

I had a customer last year get some $ from an entran II claim. Here is a link that may help. I had a staple up situation which was easier to deal with than your slab. We went with a radiant panel over the existing subfloor.
    Good luck Jeffrey

    Yes and yes

any of the old non barrier tube have a very real potential of plugging. The O2 ingress causes non ferrous components to corrode away and plug the tube. I have seen this in PB, SolarRoll and non barrier rubber. The higher temperature systems, staple up and HWBB seem to go bad first, as the O2 ingress is related to operating temperatures.

There is a ton of money available to correct these Entran systems. A few hoops to jump through but... It is also a tiered payout with the final check a ways down the road.

If the 500 million is not claimed by owners of Entran systems it all goes back to Goodyear, in a few years.

I would encourage anyone with Entran systems to look into the settlement details.

There are some companies that will help obtain a settlement for a percentage of the payout.

The color and type of material indicates Entran. It could be E-3 or ONYX which is not covered. You need to find out the installation date, find the date code on the tube, or discect a piece to see how it is made :)

    Our cleaner and treatment

products will not attack the tubing. However the clogging may also be hiding potential leaks. Give me a call at 800-543-5975 and we can discuss some potential solutions.

You can read about our two products under Hydronics on our web site www.rhomarwater.com.

We have been successful in helping other Entran II clients.
