You can get a reasonable water meter for less than $80. 3/4" x 5/8" unions is one that I have.

Neptune is another company with more options. Most common measure in cubic feet but you can get gallons, liters, whatever you want. Just may not be in stock right away in my experience.

    water meter

Is there an inexspensive water meter available to install on feed line to boiler? We would like to monitor the feed water to new boiler with old copper pipe radiant system.

    Water Meter for Leak Detection?

If you are trying to monitor for leakage, a household water meter may not be sensitive enough to respond at very low flow/drip rates - a brand new meter (Amco C700) in my house has a tiny starwheel in the middle of the dial for 'leak detection' but it did not even twitch when I had a sillcock with a very slow drip - about a drop every two minutes. I wondered if this was a defective meter, but found similar but not new meters in four other houses that would not respond to similar drip rates when somewhat scientifically tested...yet I would consider this a huge leak for a heating system.
