Anode rod for an indirect ?

I was down at Triangle Tube a few months back and specifically asked about the issue on the island with the indirects. I was told that the issue was taken care of. Do yourself a favor and call TT and talk to Jim or someone else on the engineering staff. They will help you in any way they can. On a side note, we watched them foam insulate the weil indirects. Cool!! I cannot believe some manufacturers are still using fiberglass. So call down there and get the answers you need.

  • I just changed out a Phase 3

that was installed in 2004 . The one before that lasted 4 years . My neighbor is on his 4th indirect in maybe 6 or 7 years . This has been an ongoing problem for our company for years ( not just ours ) . Almost all of Long Island is hooked up to municipal water . I think the failure of these tanks has something to do with fluorine or chlorine , some kind of ..ine . I was wondering if an anode rod would be beneficial to preserving the life of these tanks ? Since I have a Weil Mclain Gold Plus under my stairs I don't want that one to let go anytime soon . Thanks in advance .

    leaking indirect

Watch out for high chlorine levels in the water the chlorine will attack the chromium in the stainless steel mix.

    current

Stray current will also attack the tanks. Check rom the water piping to a known ground- like a ground stake for any amount of voltage. Normally I have seen the tanks fail at the point of electrical convergance, like the aquastat well.

    I know...

...anodes have been used to help keep stainless tanks going in the past. Seems there isn't much to lose by trying ;~) Unless someone gives you a good reason not to, I'd stick with magnesium.

  • We saw that in a home once

We were changing out aquaboosters in this house every few years . For some reason we cut out a tee in the main pipe and the lights flickered . Tell tale of a bad neutral in the house .

But I know this isnt the cause for the leaky indirects . Too many homes spread out over Long Island .
  • Yep

I got an email from a buddy of mine at Weil about my own indirect . That is good to hear about the issue . Phase 3 is my favorite indirect - not too heavy , heats up faster than most indirects , built in aquastat , separate tapping for a recirc line . Thanks Darin .
