why?
Why are they called "Day tanks" what happens to them when nights come?0 -
After Midnight
they turn into pumpkins.
On some boats, a day tank is where the engine(s) draw fuel from instead of directly from the main tanks. This permits extra filtering and switching fuel source to another main tank if there is a problem with contamination etc. Also makes for easy consumption measurements. Sort of like "where the fuel for the day comes from". On the tugs I sometimes ride, fuel is pumped from the main tanks to the day tank which is above the engine. Feeds by gravity to the engine fuel system. The tank has guage and the engineer manually opens valves and turns on a pump.
I suppose this could be like the old flush tanks mounted high on the wall with a pull chain??0 -
Day Tank
I don't know where this slang comes from, but it is the oil supply tank usually suspended from hi cieling in factories and other building where the oil burners are up there also.
Enjoy!!
Doug, I like the "boat stuff"!0
