Runtal RP's with fins

The Runtal product line has several options to increase output of panels by adding sections and fins, rather than dimension length and width. They will even make a curved radiator for special applications. The radiators can be ordered in 6" increments and special colors. Spend some time on their website and get the catalogue.

I've installed many, even a curved model.

    Runtal RP's with fins

Runtal has Panel Rads that have additional fins on the backside claiming an additional 50% BTU output vs. w/o fins! If this is true, then this would be an nice solution/alernative to keeping the panel rad size down with lower operating temps.

Anyone have first hand experience with these to confirm this to be true?

    Runtal As Advertised

As Paul said, plenty of options. Length increments are 2 inches in their custom line and they have stock "baseboard" (Style UF in sizes two to eight tubes high with fins).

Plenty of styles including two row with double-fins (convectors) where space is limited.

My experience is, the longer and less tall the piece with fewer header connections, the less expensive for similar outputs.

I have several types in my own home and they perform very well even with cast iron neighbors.

The finned Runtal I installed in my house has the advertised output.

It costs more, of course, so you don't save money for a given output rating. But I can't see a good reason to buy a non-finned version unless you actually want a physically bigger rad.

Note that the cost goes up proportionally with the number of tubes, but the output goes up more slowly after the first eight tubes. So if you buy one that is more than 8 tubes high, you are spending more money per rated BTU. (I am referring only to the finned rads; without fins, the output remains proportional to the panel height.)
