Roll out and spill switches?
These devices appeared on boilers when they began to be equipped with vent dampers. This was in the early 1980's. As far as what agency or organization required them, my guess would be ANSI. The boilers were equipped with dampers to meet or exceed the government mandated efficiency standard of 80%.

Does anyone know
when, about what year, these switches were required on gas fired atomspheric boilers?
Was this a mandate by ASME, ANSI or other listing agencies, or just a boiler manufactures decesion. thanks

Let me guess
I think I first saw them around '79 or '80 and they were clipped to the draft diverter, then later added to the combustion chamber area. I don't know if they were mandated or just considered to be a highly technical innovation at the time.0 -
spill switch
we started using spill switches in n.y.c. about 1984. it was a gas company requirement to pass a new or replacement boiler. this was before the manufacturers started including them on their package wiring.0 -
Required on gas
conversion burners 1978. They were then required on furnaces and boilers in 1980 according to ANSI standard for Boilers and Furnaces on all new equipment.0 -
