Sales Training for Techs

I recently attended a Seminar for "Selling Plumbing & Heating Services" and was astonished at how much easier my job has become since I've learned that Customers need "Our Help" when it comes to deciding on which Plumber to use. It simply amazes me that with a little sales training I was able to increase my Billable hour 150% in just two short weeks. And I always thought "Selling" is hard, now I realize that "Not Selling" is the real hard part, because it means I have to go on "More Calls" just to meet the Bills. If anyone would be interested in knowing about this seminar and upcoming events, email me and I'll forward the web info to you.

    I Agree

I've always worked for a company that pays me by the hour, so i could care less if the customer used me or not, but now that I work on Commissions, I really learned that it is easier and better to "Sell" than just wait for the right call. I'm looking to improve my sales techniques, so I'll email you and you can foward the info to me. Thanks for looking out for the other guy Jeff Frost

    I Don't Understand??

Why would you "care less" about a customer if you were paid by the hour? What am I missing here?

Is it possible that you might owe some loyalty to your employer and HIS customer regardless of your compensation package? I'm doubting that commission pay versus hourly pay will make any difference once the dust settles.

I wrote an article about caring for the customer

first in the magazine PH Contractor News. This last issue.

As far as selling goes, I have made my living doing that most of my life. I found it far easier to make the sale, when I was most concerned about the customer's welfare first.

    I'll Help You Understand

Okay Bill, with the little bit of info I gave, you had a fair assumption, however, let me go into it a little deeper: First, I never said "I Don't Care About The Customer", I meant if the customer uses us or not is not a great concern to me. I Know you think it's the same thing, but your wrong. The company I work for charges 467.10 an hour with a 1.5 hour minimum. If a hose needs a washer, 467.10 is what they have to pay. If they (Which they usually do tell me I'm nuts, then they only pay the $99.00 "Diagnostic Fee" However, once I have been put on commision, I am allowed to charge whatever rate I deem appropriate and since that time (Commision Basis) I have not lost a single sale and have yet to collect a single diagnostic fee from anyone. They are all satisfied, my boss is satisfied and I for one are extremely satisfied knowing that I solved the problem at a reasonable rate. Now i'm sure you will have a reply about the Rate either in favor ( Your Bos is entitled to make money) or you'll be on the "Flipside" and attempt to belittle me for "working for a company which was knowingly price gouging" In either event, I will say this preemptively, Untill you walk in my shoes, don't complain about the way I walk.
