Any Steam Experts Around Pittsburgh, PA? Leaking AS G-606

I have an American Standard G-606 gas-fired steam boiler which was installed in 1967. The right hand section of the boiler is leaking. I have located a replacement section and push nipples, but I haven't found anyone that seems to have sufficient knowledge about steam heating systems to either replace the section or install a new boiler. I also question the handling of the asbestos covered piping by some. I'm in Pittsburgh, PA.

I will be upright and honest with you that if you have one section leaking of this 38 year old boiler, probably due to internal corrosion, then the other sections will more than likely be in the same condition. Replacing that section in my opinion may just be opening a new can of worms. If it were just a few years old I would say go for it but not after that length of time. Out of all honesty, I would have to say your dollars would be better spent on a replacement boiler instead. Hope this helps.

    That boiler has served well

and it's time for a new one. Go to the Find a Professional page of this site to locate a steam man near you. There has to be someone in your area, but if you can't find someone experienced in steam, get in touch with me. I've been known to do consulting, and Baltimore isn't that far away.
