Radiant off of oil fired water heater

has anyone done a radiant setup- 50,000 BTU off of an oil fired water heater, house has only oil heat w/ addition w/ no chimney possible,, only option besides direct vent oil is to add oil fired w/h on chimney w/ oil fired furnace,,, Does any one really make a great oil fired direct vent boiler,, I've used reg boiler w/ tjunerlund power venter kit ( not a great setup)

Is the usual problem. radiant is a multi faceted word, is it HOT Or relitavely COOL radiant.
that is rads, Or in floor? Condensation is the culprit. any existing heating appliance must be readilly accepted by the temperature required. If your going to use a W/H to heat the house, at least install a flat plate heat exchanger between it and the heated space!

I have used a 50 gallon oil water heater to heat a house utilizing hydro-air a couple of times, if that helps ya. Worked good.

you do not want to runa water heater at low temperatures for extended periods. they will corrode away the flue piping and possibly the heater components. IF you really need to use a standard tank type, non condensing, water heater run the temperature up above condensation range and use a small thermostatic mixing valve to get the radiant temperatur needed.

Generally they work in hydro air systems as the operating temperature is above 140° F or so. Same with the combi units, most ot those still ship with 160 aquastate and a mixing valve for the DHW included with the heater.
