Cleaning the inside of cast iron radiators?

Is there something that I can put into some free standing
(not hooked up) radiators that I want to use. I.E. baking
soda, vinegar, whatever, and then let them sit for a few days just to clean them out. Also does the anti-freeze
that is put into a home hot water heating system reduce
the amount of heat output that the radiators give out by
ANY amount. If so, about what percentage does it reduce
it by?
Thanks,
Steve

    cleaning radiators

use a pressure washer of about 4000 psi ,you might want to put an elbow on the end of the wand to spray up the sections.this method will remove all of the "loose" materials.

    What are you

trying to clean out? Rust, sludge...? Different cleaners are built for different problems. hard water deposits generally use a mild acid. Soap based, TSP, will clean greas, sludge, etc. Rhomar cleaners do a nice job also.

Yes the glycol does change heat transfer. You need to know the type PG or EG and the percentage. Pump size needs to be looked at also with glycols.

I use glycol ONLY when absoutley needed, snowmelts etc. It brings some baggage, other than viscosity, along with that freeze protection function. Invest in a digital ph meter if you plan on maintaining glycoled systems.
