dodge sprinter van?

How is the power? I would be using it mostly on rural roads in North East Connecticut. I can only find one dealer in my area that carries them and he doesn't want to deal with the b package, thats my job.

    almost

I almost bought one liked how it rode and seemed to have plenty of space but the dealer tried pulling a fast one on me before i signed on the dotted line.
I ended up with an e350 diesel, no complaints but i think i could have had alot of fun with the sprinter

    Don't you hate

Auto Dealers :( If only they knew how folk viewed them. I worked at a new car dealership for a month, but scruples got the better of me, I had to leave.

    i was ready to sign

The main reason i was going to purchase the van was the dealer had me convinced that they would supply a complete bin package with a cage and everything in between with no additional charge.
When i went to sign they told me that there would be no bin package and i would have to purchase it seperately for 4000$.
Went to ford bought a brand new diesel and got a great bin package for free.
I dont think they realize that we as contractors need to be on the road working and not shopping around for bins and racks. I just want to go to the dealership get the van go from there back to the shop throw all my tools and junk in it go back to work. Time is money.

We've had one for 3-4 months---

We got one and are very pleased so far. Getting about 21 mpg in town as opposed to 11-12 on 3/4 ton vans. We bought the bin package and ladder racks and everything seems to have worked out OK.

Our other techs kidded the tech that got the Sprinter about it looking like an ice cream truck at first, but I think they would all like to have one if they could.

    Bought one in February

We now have 13,000+ miles on it and we like it a LOT! Especially at the fuel pump. Mileage started out at 19 to 20 and started going up gradually at 7-8000 miles on the odometer. The last three tanks have been in the high 23mpg range. I bought it with the engine monitor system that indicates when it's time for an oil change and service. It just lit up at about 12,500 miles. I called the dealership and asked about oil change intervals going that long and they said don't worry about it. They have some over the road expiditer companies that are crowding 1/2 million miles on the clock while following nothing but the engine monitor for service. He said a lot of the guys doing steady driving are seeing oil changes every 15-17,000 miles. Mercedes/Dodge/Freightliner/et al, recommend 0W30 Mobil 1

    I'd buy another one!

I'd like to lower the temp and have a small modulating condensing boiler in the back for keeping it warm in the winter buh ...no complaints:) may put some warm board and some outside reset :)...have way too much work to do anything for myself at the momment.. momment.."the paint dried, whens the boiler going to be up and running? "we need someone at the locates for the undergrounds....when will you be able to rough the other duplexes in? oh by he way ..we are having the cabinets delivered and the ladds need something to do so can you get the heat up and jazz up the water and a toilet? the lino guy will be in next week so run back over and yank the toilet back out so the guys can get the underlayment in for him....the fixtures should be easy to get i will see if i can get you a colour code number...ah the joys of 18 19 hrs daylight and 80->90 degree heat :)

i nearly bought the white freight liner and a 28 foot box ..

    sprinter van

60,000 miles @ 20 MPG. Ther are issues, 2 sets of rear shocks, trans shudder when shifing, just put new pads/rotors on the front, lousy radio. But it beats the E250 and the Step van to work out of . I like the 2003 140 SHC so well I just bought a 2005 140 SHC 153, bright yellow in color. I've had it a month and have not had a chance to do the insulation, rear heater, lights yet. My lead tech will get the 2003 and I'll get rid of the Ranger.

    Geez Ken,

all that space and weight and you're complaining about gas? LOL :-)

My 2005 Dodge Dakota just hauling my training stuff around gets 15 mpg and doesn't have all your stuff in it.

I was looking at a Sprinter, but I don't think there are enough to fill the demand and the dealers are playing games, shame on them!

    Some are

I bought mine at K&M Dodge in Grand Rapids Mi. It was a 2004 model and they discounted it over $2,000 plus the mfr's rebate of $1,000. Cost was $33,189 OTD. It's got air,PW,PL, cruise, heated power mirrors, aux heat, engine monitor system, deluxe seats, and yes the radio sucks. They are one of the few dealers who are agressively discounting these things and the sales guy said they move between 15-20 every month. They deliver.

BTW, Mine is silver. Go figure!

    That's what it's all

    about, FACT!

  • George, Doing my part to keep the economy going , the gasoline business's that is .

My father used to have a sign hanging in his service vehicle , it read " KEEP AMERICA GREEN , SPEND MONEY "

Just wishing that buying products such as gasoline did keep "America" green .

    Amen brother!

I am getting worried about the economy though!

Read a book about the Hoover Adminstration and the state of the country in 1928. If you take out the war in Iraq, it looks like 1928 all over again! Really spooky when you consider there's a drought in many areas of the country too. History does repeat itself, FACT!

I'm gonna go hide under my oil tank now, LOL and enjoy the truck and have a good weekend!
  • Scary but true , George

History always does repeat itself , scary but true .

Stay cool if you can .

All we can do is try to weather the storm , I suppose .

    High Mile

The 20 plus miles to the gallon sounds great. I would like to get one, but I don't think I could get pass the Dodge part in the name. My 99 SD has just hit 295,000 and it still runs like new. I don't think the little 5 cylinder will make it that far.

    S'not a Dodge

It's Mercedes Benz right down to the little three point star in the window glass. If it was truly a Dodge, I likely wouldn't be driving it either. At this point however, the only thing on the vehicle that's a Dodge part is the chromed plastic piece that says DODGE. Everything else is MB.

My F350 went BLAM! in the gasoline station...

Blam is not good..fire comming along with that...a nice pool of fire where the truck was located and a niffty stream of fire following me away from the pumps as i realized that i just might not be able to survive THIS one *~/:) Blam is Not Good ...i dont know What Happened to my super man t shirt...thank God for the trucker with the fire extinguisher i wheeled it outta his hands faster than he could blink ...

    YIkes!

That is scary stuff all the more reason to go diesel since it doesn't go Blam . It can though make a pretty good woooosh followed by a more sooty black mushroom cloud . Don't ask me how I know this...

    wiring problem within 4000Km

I have a client who had a wiring harness failure shortly after 4000kM (2000 Mile). It turns out that a wiring loom clamp was left off at the factory and the inner copper conductors cracked. There was no external evidence of damage. Sypmtom was pronounced diesel hammer (similar in sound to preignition) and engine operating in safemode (maximum road speed of 25 to 30kMH. Harness replaced, operation and mileage restored. This affects quite a few vehicles.

Otherwise, he laughs all the way past the filling station.

BTW todays regular costs $1.10/L CDN for regular and Diesel is $.95/L.

    Something...

...many people don't realize, is that if the diesel is running in an area where there's an external fuel source, as in fumes, you can be in for some "excitement". Under the right conditions, the engine air intake can suck these combustible fumes in, and fire them quite nicely. If this happens, you how have no control over your engine - you can't even shut it off. (I remember about 1980, there was trouble with Volkswagon Rabbit diesels sucking lube oil out of the crankcase, and having the engines "run away".) There are apparently some refinery/petro-chem operations that won't allow diesel engine vehicles on-site, unless they're fitted with a manual air intake damper so that can be shut, regardless of what else is happening.
