    Printed Circuit Boards

On A Lennox circuit board, that the solder has popped off the back of the fan relay, is it illegal to resolder rather than replace the board?

Depends on who you are and where you are doing it. I personally would do it. However last I checked in my area you can't make changes to a UL listed circuit board unless it isn't required that the board be UL listed. It would most likely void the manufacturers warranty as well.

I would check with your local rep and see if there is possibly a tech service bulletin on the component you need to change. In that case there will be a factory proceedure and the change will be completely legal UL listing or not.

    nope

nothing illegal about it if you are willing to take on all the responsibility and voiding any warranties. I would in my own house as a temp. fix but never for a customer for liability reasons.

    the world

Unfortunately, in the world we live, anything that you do "outide the box" can land you in a world of hurt. You re-solder the relay and 6 months later the fan motor burns up (completely unrelated), the liability may come back to you. Your intentions are good, but the lawyers occasionally feed on them.
