Don't know where you are from John, but we are about an hour north of Frankenmuth. Have been there many times and you are correct about it. Almost like going back in time. But, there is something you must watch out for. The Inns there use as much local food stuffs as possible. We walked around the back of one of the restaurants and thought we were in a Outer Limits show. There was a LARGE pile of Hubbard Squash. They were serving it in the restaurant as a special. Has anyone seen one of these things?? Damndest thing I ever saw. It was BLUE! About the size of a watermelon. All I could think of was pods. Anyway, glad you enjoyed your visit, come back often!

The best days of my life
It took me a while to get here but now I am truly enjoying being a Dad. The picture attached is a shot of my 13-year-old son's team and baseball diamond during last weekend's tournament in Frankenmuth, Michigan. The setting was too good to believe. The town is typical U.S. -- small, lots of neat old homes, great rural atmosphere, yet one of Michigan's top tourist spots because of the world's largest Christmas store (Bronner's), the famous chicken dinners, and the German hospitality and theme of the town. It was also the Bavarian festival that weekend, which included another U.S, tradition: the carnival rides and midway. As you can see from the picture, it was a picture perfect day with the weather all weekend hovering around 70 degrees.
I took a walk around the area and thought of how great this setting was. My son was playing the great American pastime, kids were running around enjoying the games and the carnival atmosphere (right across the road from the three baseball diamonds), and lots of families were taking time out of their hectic schedules to slow down a bit and enjoy being together and having old-fashion fun in the perfect setting.
It is great to think that life can be so good and that there are so many things that I, as a Dad and as an American, are so grateful for. It would take a lot of words to express my feelings but suffice it to say, my greatest Father's Day gift is savoring every monent of life today.
To all Dads out there -- have a wonderful Father's Day.0 -

My parents here in Maine grew them like crazy, I think it was thier favorite winter squash or rather the only one they knew, I hated them, I grew up and discovered Waltham Butternut Squash and thats all I grow.0 -
A regular stop
We are from Livonia, about an hour south. We visit at least twice a year for chicken, ornaments, and a visit with the best Santa Claus on the planet (at Bronners).0 -
Baseball lovers and givers
If you love baseball and also want to help out victims of Hurricane Katrina, check out this great looking T-shirt. I just ordered mine.
