I've seen ONE installed in the late 40's or 50's.

help! What is this?
I'm new to this forum, but a buddy of mine asked me what this is. I didn't know but I just left Dan's class in Hillside, IL and he said post the photo...someone will know.
Thanks,
Frank0 -
Gee
I thought Dan would have said if you don't know what it is and it appears to be working you very slowly back out the door and walk away gingerly. Actually I am sure Dan is right and someone here will know what it is.0 -
does it have a name on it..
some identifying info at all? the handle on the top sort of suggests some sort of a relief valve..any wording on it would help..

Here's a little more info. It was on an older hot water boiler (20 yrs plus). Boiler had standard t/p valve. But this was where you might find the back flow prevention valve. Three lines run to/from the valve, water line in, water line to boiler and a third for drainage. After boiler ran for about 3-4 minutes, the valve began to discharge. I understand boilers but this valve was a new one. Anyone familair with it and if the unit replaces the standard t/p valve?
Hope that helps.0 -
It's a
B&G No. 500 Self-Filling valve. It combines a relief valve set at 30psi, a reducing valve factory set at 12 psi (adjustable) and a by-pass.0 -
From the three lines you describe (fresh in, fresh to boiler & drain) it sounds like some sort of fill valve. Perhaps lifting the handle gives "fast fill" and the discharge acts as a sort of over-pressure (but not temp) relief???
Is there any provision for adjustment?0 -
Some how...
I KNEW you'd know what it was:-)
Good call Bob!
