How do I operate this system?

I've been reading some of the reference material. Is it possible for my system to operate effectively in either a gravity or a forced flow mode? From the material it sounds like there are changes made (orifices etc) when the change to forced flow is made.
The wood boiler is hand fired so my goal would be for the oil boiler to cut in when the fire goes down with no action on my part, does the valve shown on the diagram have to be closed to run in gravity mode?

Operating this system?
Hi all,
I've attached a (very) rough drawing of the hot water (cast radiators) system found in the house we just bought. The previous residents have passed on so I did not get any firsthand knowledge of how well this system worked, but it appears both furnaces were used.
Any comments on how this system is set up and how it should be operated would be appreciated. I don't know if any changes were made to the radiators when the oil furnace was added.
Thanks a lot.0 -
pls,pls
Tom, please don't label those boilers furances, furances are for hot air people..
Looks like ur oil boiler have pump on return side (shud be on supply) when using the wood boiler, they may close the valve on oil boiler and use the wood as gravity system, depending on pipes size...0 -
Hello Tom
Tom there should limet sets on there to start and stop the oil side , i would have a pro check it out for you and go over the system and show you the in's and out's so you understand the way it works. go to find a pro on this site and put in your zip code...David
