Knight boilers

There is no comparison between Knight and Munchkin.Of the Munchkins, most of them required service callbacks, some could not be kept running even after the reps were here to exam them and had to be replaced. They are also very touchy, follow the instructions exactly and pray. Of the Knights, one had a control board problem but still ran in a default mode.

    Knight boilers??

What do ya all think of the Knight boiler. I am a little skeptical of the 1 year parts warranty, I would like to see them at least provide a 3 yr warranty on the fan and main control board as Lochinvar part prices have always been super high. Any responses, Thanks in advance, tim.

    Knight boiler

Hey Tim, if you start to experiance deja vu it might be because the Knight boiler is a Munchkin in a different colored box. Good luck. Jay.

    Similar

but different. The Munchkin heat exchanger uses 3/8 tubes. The knight uses 5/8 so not as much pressure drop. WW

    Warranty

    Tim,
The Knight Boiler carries a 12 year warranty on the stainless steel heat exchanger and a 1 year warranty on parts.

All parts for the Knight boilers are competitively priced. I believe you will find them available through Keller in Seattle.

As for the Knight being a different colored Munchkin? I have attached an informational document for your review.

Tim, for the same dough I would recommend the Triangle Tube Prestige Solo series. Low pressure drop and I think it will be very reliable. Not to mention much better combustion efficiency. Reminds me of the Aerco BMK 2.0 for heat exchanger design and RBI Futura and PK for the burner. Two very reliable commercial boilers.

    sorry...

I can’t help myself... Combustion Efficiency? Meaning what?

We are really liking the Lochinvar Knight Boiler. Gather all of the information needed to make an informed decision. You can access necessary information from the Lochinvar web-site.

Things I like that separate it from the pack. (In my opinion)

    1. Venting - 100' equivalent feet for BOTH intake and exhaust. That is a huge asset for changeouts from atmospheric or mechanical rooms that are quite a ways from the exterior, vertical or horizontal.

    2. Outdoor Reset - Integral and standard. I don't have to add the vision 1 kit as with a Munchkin.

    3. Internal Sequencer - Want to stage, rotate, AND control modulation of multiple boilers. Done. I am a big fan of Tekmar for staging and rotation, but it is not in every budget.

    4. Circulator - Included.

    5. Looks - while purely aesthetic, my customers know they are getting a well designed and engineered product that looks good.

    6. Support - If you have any issues, big or small, they still answer the phone. I called the other day and the son of one of the owners answered. He is earning his stripes in tech-support. Is that classy or what?

    7. Ike Gatlin - Boiler Product Manager. Responds with class to people like Jay who might just be instigating or looking to make waves.

    Jay,

The Wall is a great place to come and learn, access information, and verify if it is true or not with other contractors from around the country. Ask the Munchkin people if their boiler is the same as a Knight. Let me know what they say. Broad and general statements like yours only serve to discredit you, if you consider the knowledgable company you are in here at The Wall.

Ike I would have to write all day on combustion efficiency. Something I pay a great amount of detail to. Basically how well the flame burns. I would recomend the North American Combustion handbook or the John Zinc Combustion handbook for the inquiring mind.

One thing I really like about the Knight though is how friendly it is to external modulation. Works very well with a 0-10V signal. I wish every boiler did that.

    We have the time, Josh

if you care to explain the combustion efficiency difference between the two brands mentioned :)

How many of each have you installed and run combustion efficiency testing on?

I'm currently testing 6 different brands of mod cons in my shop, I'd like to hear your thoughts on efficiency comparisons.

    Kinght Install

We've installed several Knights. We are very impressed with not only the product but the company. We went to Lochinvar factory for the inaugural Knight training and met Ike, the engineering and sales VPs, and the Valettes. These guys are impressive.

Here's a pic of our typical Knight install. We follow mfg IO manuals as closely as possible.

What HR said... I too pay a LOT of attention to the fire sides of these units. Please tell us more Josh.

    Always yearnin' for a learnin'...

Tell me what you think of excess air, CO production, residual o2 and subsequent co2.

And what the heck are we going to do when the btu content is a moving target possibly changing caloric content on an hourly basis?

Do we adjust to the lower energy content and cross our fingers when the btu content goes up or do we adjust to the higher btu content gas and let dillution do its thang?

I for one am all ears (eyes):-)

Is there any truth the the rumor that the system is only as strong as the weakest link? In other words, if I have a burner running at stoichiometric conditions, and I have a piece of crap for a heat exchanger, is the stoichiometric burner really doing me all that good?

    Looking good

Nice to see that others in the field can have a standard by which to impress. How else to achieve more reliable business? Word of mouth will slay the ad campaigns! I've been impressed with the Knight, no munchie problems and very installer (and service?) friendly. Let's move to the next level.

I will gladly look up the readings I have gathered. I am very picky about combustion personally. It was our biggest concern in industrial boilers. I guess that mentality really stuck to my ribs. at any rate when I get a free minute I will gather the info. Hot Rod I am really excited to hear about your testing. can I get an email update by chance?
