water loss in slab

We do leak detection as a part of our swimming pool buisness. We use a geophone available from Pollardwater.com, $245.00 without wooden case. Typically we blow the water out of the lines, then inject air at about 15-20 pounds. As the air leaks out in to the already saturated area it gurgles, much like blowing on a straw in your drink. The goephones are like a giant stethescope with two heads. Keep moving the heads until you get the sound between them, and that is it. I find leaks under 4 inches of concrete and 4 feet of dirt.

    water loss in slab

I'm a inside salesman for a wholesaler and looking for a way to find a waterloss in a slab for a customer. Was thinking that an infrared device might show or maybee a listening devise to find a hiss. Appreciate any good ideas or tools that would help. Thanks, Spanky

Infrared works; acoustic devices don't (IMO). You are sure you're leaking @ slab, right?

    Any or all can work

I sub contract my leak detection to www.leakbusters.com.

Not only do they have a good selection of the latest and greatest equipment, but more importantly they know how to use it!

I tried renting and borrowing various devices to find slab leaks. After burning up several days I called in the pros. Within several hours he pinpointed 4 leaks in an old rubber tube slab system to within an inch!.

]Most were found with a listening devise and a venturi arrangment that injected water and air into the loop to be able to hear it better. Flowing water is fairly hard to hear, as soon as he turnd on the air the locations jumped right out. A lot depends on the size of the leak also.

He also had inert gas rigs, cameras, and even small cathaders to insert in holes. Pretty wild stuff.

And they guarantee their results. try 'em.
