You have to wonder...........
How many of the guys in that picture made it through.
My dad-in-law landed on the 8th and could never get past saying "the bodies" when he would tell the story. He would recount the memories of leaving England, the boat ride, landing on the beach, then he would stop and just say "the bodies". He couldn't tell the story of that day any further than that.0 -
I remembered
Thanks for the moving pictures0 -
It is hard to believe that was over 62 years ago
From a variety of sources, movies, documentaries, and speaking with people who were there: it is obvious that this was a day that will live in our history for decades to come.
I guess, standing at the cementary is a very moving and vivid experience. And to remember, all of those young folks who never saw their 22nd birthday. It brings a tear to the eye and a lump to the throat.
We really do owe them for their courage to do their duty in a time of great peril to our country. If there is a rightous war, WWII is at the top of the list. Those Americans still living and long dead are worthy of a moment of quiet reflection.0
