Won't This Look Nice?

It almost seems unused. All original black paint on the body. Brass polished to "inspection grade". Zero rust--even on the little spring steel retainers for the bezel. Glass seems optical grade--eyeglass but not Ziess.

Dial is engraved and carefully painted. That "easy reading" engraved 12" machinist's rule just cost me $20.

What's happened to Americans? The quality and attention to detail in this mundane object intended to be used by "simple" workers is well beyond what is considered "high-end" today.

Have we lost pride in our ability to produce such things or do we just demand so much quantity that quality and longevity are forgotten?
