It almost seems unused. All original black paint on the body. Brass polished to "inspection grade". Zero rust--even on the little spring steel retainers for the bezel. Glass seems optical grade--eyeglass but not Ziess.

Dial is engraved and carefully painted. That "easy reading" engraved 12" machinist's rule just cost me $20.

What's happened to Americans? The quality and attention to detail in this mundane object intended to be used by "simple" workers is well beyond what is considered "high-end" today.

Have we lost pride in our ability to produce such things or do we just demand so much quantity that quality and longevity are forgotten?

to the 1920s at least. Some time after that, the pressure and temp gauges were merged into what we know today as a "theraltimeter" or "tridicator".

Yes, eBay and price was low. Have been watching and looking for one of these for a long time. See a fair number of steam gauges, but this was the first altitude gauge I'd seen.
