Very Small A/C Condensing Unit

Personally I have not..however I do have several friends in my area that swear by them.

I'm sure in the future as home get tighter and the sensible load start to drop the latent capacity has to go up.So maybe this valve will have a long life..but maybe not with two stage condenser soon to become the norm.
You properly will not need to go this route,I'm sure you would be find with a just changing the accurater.

Carrier, lennox and several other used to downside the indoor coil a half of ton for years with great results.

I'm sure you can still get a ari rated match with what you're trying to do.Thats the only problem when you start thnking out the box..ari or the equipment company not going to have your back.

Still looking for a 1-ton. Was told that Trane made one, but find 1½ ton as the smallest.

Only cools a 40' x 16' area (two bedrooms and a bath). Prefer mid-efficiency as the really high-efficiency units don't deal well with our humidity.

    1-ton unit

    Mike,

We used a 1-ton Trane unit on a project a couple of years ago. I don't know if it is still available. EMI (ECR International) makes small units including a 1-ton unit. -DF

    Let me guess..

Was it Cors or Halsey that told you that?

    They are out there

A-S/Trane does make a 1 ton, actually ends up around 1.25 ton. Armstrong has one, I think Lennox too. York's cube 10 SEER has a 1 ton.

    Thanks Dan.

They even go down to 9,000 btu/hr--had given up on finding something that small and that's a touch less than computed gain. Have written to see if the optional discharge knockouts on their evap units can be used INSTEAD of the main outlet.

Do like the small size (both physical and output). Ductwork already installed and set up so that I can easily put all the flow to one room or split between the two via a modultrol. If it works out, should be able to have independent control in both rooms without concern for freezup due to oversizing.

    Thanks again!

Thanks Carl! All local houses (including one that sells Trane) told me that a one-ton wasn't available. I couldn't find it on their website either.

    .

It's not in the regular residential/commercial catalog. It's in the "mini-split" info.

Hadn't looked at those because I assumed they came only with the "system" evap/fan units. Are properly sized evap coils (and air handlers) available for these?

They'll get you any kind of fan coils you want. vertical, horizontal, heat strips, hw coil, etc..

I thought you just wanted the condensing unit.. You need the whole setup?

Yes, whole unit. Sorry--condensing unit has been the real problem. Inaccessible ductwork installed--suitable for 1½ tons, but set up so I can easily change things.

If the "ductless" evaps are set up where ducting is actually possible will have room for a neat zoned system with airflow going to two outlets in either bedroom, one outlet in each or anything in between. Might not have room for that with a regular horizontal air handler unless it's smaller (shorter) than the ones I've used before.

    Aha.

Sounds like you need some of these.

    Mike

why not just installed the 1 1/2 ton condenser on a 12000
btu coil, with the right expansion valve you could use the
    additional capacity as latent capacity.

Sound like it would be idea for controlling high humidity.

    Thanks Don.

Will talk with my reefer man about that.

I usually do and supply everything save the refrigeration hookup. Am really picky about returns and ductmanship.

Last system I did that way confirmed the idea of slightly undersizing the system. Great humidity removal and very comfortable as long as you don't use too much setback (or is that set-up). Renter finally seems to understand that the temp displayed on the thermostat is not a good indicator of comfort.

Have you ever used a Rawal variable expansion valve?
