Know they're time-tested, but you might want to check out the EPDM liners from Resource Conservation Technology. Very high-quality stuff, easy to use and should prove nearly eternal. They highly recommend and supply a German-made caulking to use around the flange as they claim no U.S. equivalent. Wicked expensive (for a tube of caulk) so seal off the tube with some plastic wrap under the cap.

Local plumbing house told me that they're no longer available. Only cast iron and PVC. Web search for either brass or bronze gives zero results.0 -

We use urinal strainers for any municipality that still requires a lead pan. We solder the lead to the threaded brass cup. We've been doing this for years.0 -

I recently had to make a double depth strainer because the inspector would not allow the tile guy to "float the strainer in the mud. We were told the shower floor was to be standard small hexagonal tile. Nobody told the plumber that "we decided to go with the granite". Where in God's green Earth am I supposed to find a deep thread strainer to screw into the darn urinal strainer that is under the granite? Simple. I took two strainers to my friend's machine shop, hacked the screen off of one, machined a socket where the screen end was, and machined off the first three threads so it would fit in the socket joint. Soldered it up and "presto", the inspector was able to sleep that night.

As nerve-wracking and annoying as it was......
I bet you enjoyed the craftsmanship and the challenge. MD

I had a ball. But I could not charge the customer for the 4 hours of machine time.
I guess education has to cost something... I honed my lathe skills.0
