Radiant Ceiling Detail
Hey all,
I just got the updated version of Modern Hydronic Heating (2nd ed) and it's got some interesting details for radiant ceilings.
Basically, it shows heavy gauge plates attached through polyisocyanurate foam to a backer of OSB. This threw me for a loop; I would never consider attaching plates through foam, normally, being worried about the lack of firm attachment directly to a solid backer allowing for plate noise (Like HR saw with his sheetrock install). It looks like adhesive is all that is used for the attachment of the plates to foam!!
However, Siggy knows his stuff as well. To complicate matters, we use lightweight plates in ceilings typically as we feel the heavy gauge is a bit of overkill for an installation that works well with lightweights and is usually a step taken to reduce overall costs.
So.. has anyone played with that installation method in real life? I think I feel more comfortable attaching to strapping directly as we have been with real fasteners and just making sure there is adequate R-value over the whole assembly, but I'm open to other experiences with this method.
Thanks!
