Kosher update from last week

I was invited to attend the county board meeting this morning whilst they reviewed the quotes I had given them for boiler replacement. Also invited was the salesman from the compnay that I posted about last week using a De Dietrich boiler and hanging an off the shelf buner on it. Turns out the burner is a modulating type (4-1 turndown) Inter Tec or Air Tec.....something like that. Not sure of the exact name but I did catch that it's made in Wisconsin. Maybe someone here is familiar with it? Any info or insight would be appreciated

During the course of our conversation I asked the saleman from the other company if their boiler/burner combo was tested as a unit and who did the testing. He replied that the boiler and the burner were each certified and tested by the respective manufacturers. The burner manufacturer said it was approved for that particular use.

I'm still not clear on all the legalities of what can get hung on what and what opganization, if any, grants approvals for a setup such as that.

Any comments?

    Using the Alternates...

I'd be skeptical without talking with the technical division of De Detrich. As you know, burner setups are carefully tested by Viessmann to make sure they work properly. Burner setup guides are available. Why take a chance on hearsay?

BTW, have you had access to the Viessmann commercial boiler software?? If not, sign the release from your rep and get a copy...it's awesome!! It also may help you close the sale.

What's in the commercial software? My distributor has never mentioned anything about it.

I couldn't agree more on the testing issue. It sounds like the compnay is getting just the bare block and jacket from DeDietrich and hanging a UL listed burner on it. Definitely not the integrated system approach that you and I are used to from Viessmann.

    That's the issue

This company is offering the DeDietrich with a burner that I don't believe has been tested or approved for use on their boiler. I realize the DD's are available with all the standard burners but I'm really curious as to how this boiler is being sold with the particular burner they are offering.

The salesman would not come out and say "DeDietrich has tested and approved this burner for their equipment."

    Commercial Viessmann software

The software allows fuel cost analysis and break-even graphs for any commercial boiler in the line (as well as the Vitodens) and shows comparative results (with cool graph functions) with existing equipment. You can enter the last year's fuel bills, and existing combustion test results to make the report highly accurate. The more data entered on the existing equipment, the more accurate the report/analysis.

Cannot be used on the residential side because of AFUE ratings.
