I'm not sure about the superstor but here's what you need to know for a zone off a steam boiler. and that zone could possibly go to the superstor if there are enough btu's available?

As Dan would say it pays to wander off the wall

    Alan.

How did you make the link you provided say what it says, and not just the link itself. Boy did that sound dumb? Do you know what I mean?

....I have instructions on their way to you...

... as long as that e-mail address you have here is valid. Cheers!

    If the boiler is large...

... and the pressure relatively high, you can even "fire" an indirect water heater like the horizontal Vitocell from Viessmann with steam. They offer some impressive recovery rates in that application. However, most residential steam systems don't have the spare capacity to do this right.

Instead, you could zone a hydronic loop off the bottom of the boiler Given the temperatures of steam systems, the recovery rates ought to be impressive. Alan's link to Dans knowledge says it all, as far as implementation goes.

  • Remember though

that the indirect should be prioritized to shut down the heat when the tank needs to be replenished . The pickup factor on the steam boiler should be a non issue with an indirect . I'm still waiting to install my 1st indirect directly off a steamer . I wonder if there is any difference in recovery time compared to a hot water boiler ?
