No Space for Viessmann Mix Station-Ahhh

there's actualy a plastic binder holder behind the tank. I don't usually use CSST near the boiler or exposed locations, but this mech area is unforgiving. One can only be so obsessive. We'll trim the excess wiring when we're finished. Radiators will be installed in 3 weeks.

    Ran out of room...then what

This closet installation of a Vitodens 8/32 and VitoCell 79g tank was as tight as it gets...then the owner had us redo the entire home's heating system with addition of Runtal radiators and a main floor staple-up, we were at a quandary for placement of the required 3 way mixing station. With strut,3/8" plated rod, Mupro clamps and cutting wood blocks to match the tank's conture, we hung the station on the Indirect tank. Kudos to Kelly Jecs for coming up with the solution.

I can't believe you fit all that equipment in that size room , and I see some tight spots quite often . I like how the drips for the relief valves go into a drain . Is it OK to have the indirect relief valve that far out of the tank ? Now tell us , whos idea was it to make the boiler room so small ? Contractor or homeowner ? Outstanding install Paul .

    Thanks,Ron

Ron, the homeowner (who is German) bought the home several years ago. We replaced the 7 year old orig boiler 6 months ago, all of which was crammed in a 7ft wide closet inb the basement with no floor drain. We had to excavate the foundation wall for 25 ft to install the condensate and comb drains. The relief valve at the tank should be within the tank, or within 6" of the tank outlet. However Viessmann does not provide a sidewall relief valve tapping. Shame on them!:)....It's the only limitation of the tank design, and should be something that Viessmann includes in a product revision.

    Looks like

Another outstanding install Paul, one in which the bar could have easily been dropped a notch or two. But no! Your guys succeeded in keeping it at the top!. There's always a way if you ponder a situation for a while and let your mind think outside the box. A tip of the hat to you and your installation crew for another correctly done job.

    piping size

    Paul,
Are you using 1" or 3/4" pipe from the Vitoden to the tank?

    DHWTank coil piping

1" is required, even though the tappings on the Vitodens are 3/4". Reduction in pipe size to the tank coil will greatly affect flow rates and tank recovery times.

    Beautiful Install, Paul!

Despite the tight conditions, you got everything installed nicely. I like the temp gauges, the neatness of the Propress and the ingenuity of using the tank to help mount the additional zone controllers. I also love the look of the Mupro clamps holding everything in place.

Please don't take the following as a criticism... I am not a fan of SST... but it does the job. A finishing touch could be a small box to help stow the documentation (currently hidden behind a pipe) and to cover up the excess wiring dangling next to the Vitodens.

Thanks for sharing, congratulations on a beautiful install, and I hope you can share more!

    Hey

SST- do you mean the stainless steel corrugated flexible gas tubing?
