Can't shut shut off on one pipesteam radiator

I want to shut off heat to an unused upper floor room. I could not turn the shut off at the bottom of the radiator by hand. I used a pipe wrench and I fear I stripped the plastic? rubber? shut off. I am at a loss as to can I remove the screw that holds the plastic/rubber? shutoff grip and then try to turn the shut off with pliers or pipe wrench?. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you

Not recommended to use the valve any way.Remove the radiator vent and replace with a 1/8" plug to shut off.....

Thank you Ed. Just one more question. After I put in the 1/8" plug do I leave the shut off valve in the open or closed position?

He means if you plug the air vent hole, you woun't have to turn off the valve. It simply will not heat if the air can't vent from it. This way you don't have to mess with the troublesome valve.
