how much water in baseboard?

Baseray has not appreciably changed in the past 50 years. Some things are just that good....
But I got to thinking about this just now (it's a curse, I know... :) )
If I took a slab of baseray a foot long and what, 10 inches high and maybe 2 inches deep? That is 240 cubic inches if a solid block of metal. (It is not, of course; there is an air passage and fins and of course, cast iron).
A gallon of water is about 207.5 cubic inches. Thirty percent of that, 0.30 gallons is 62.2 cubic inches. Proportionately that makes sense so I have to ask how they could make it have more internal volume.
And the greater question I have to ask, Ross is, what are you calculating volume for that has to be that precise? If an expansion tank I doubt you will fall short given increment sizes. If in doubt go up a size. If for chemical treatment purposes, you are probably close enough for government work :)

How much water in burnham baseray baseboard?
I have 50 year old burnham baseray cast iron baseboard. I am trying to calculate water content per foot of baseboard. I checked their website which shows .3 gallons per foot with the current baseray. Does this hold true for the 50 year old baseray? 155 feet of baseboard multiplied by .3 equals 46.5 gallons of water. Is this calculation correct? Thanks for helping.0
