Tears on Valentine's day!
Tears of joy, that is.
We became grandparents this morning! The call we've been anticipating came in at 8 AM our time(9 PM China time). Actual official time of Lily's adoption was 3 PM their time, which would have been 2 AM last night.
All the guys were razzing me about being late for work, so I let them roll with that for a bit & then told them I'd make them a deal: "The day you become a grandparent, you have my advance permission to be late for work!"
What a great day this has become(G).
Let the spoiling begin!

You just got a Grampa who will hold you in his arms and sit you on his knee. And if your really good he'll tell you all about the silly stuff your Daddy did when he was young.
You just got a Gramma who will shower you with love and affection, who will buy you special little gifts every time you come to visit.

There really is nothing like grandkids. They make me laugh to the point of tears at least a half dozen times a week. There really should be a way to have them first! All five are close enough that we see them a lot, In fact, Kathy and I just went to the local greasy spoon to celebrate Valentine's Day with three of them in tow. Madelyn (6)spilled her pop, Maggie (2) threw a fit because she wanted what Madelyn had and Mabel (9 months) was happy as a pig in mud as long as we kept stuffing mashed potatoes in her grinning mug. She was taters and gravy from ear to ear by the time we were done. It's amazing to me how the things that I used to get upset about when my own kids did them, now seem so trivial compared to the moment that simply demands to be savored and enjoyed.
You will come to understand that you see grandkids in an entirely different light.
Have a blast my good man! I know you and the better half will show her what love is.0 -

When John was a mere lad of eight, I asked him for his mother's hand in marriage. I told him it was up to him to decide if we would be a family or if I should take a hike. Lucky for me he gave his blessing! We've had a wonderful father/son relationship (without the "step" stuff). Now it's his turn.
