How much main venting do I need ??

I have one main line of 2 inch diameter and a length of 55 feet.I prefer Gortons valves and I want to know how much venting I need. Thanks

2" pipe =.023cfm per ft. x 55 = 1.265 cfm + 9.5 cfm for the open 3/4" pipe = 10.765 cfm - 8.8 cfm for 4 Gorton # 2's - 2.1 cfm for 3 Gorton # 1's. Or you could just install 5 Gorton # 2's. It's only a .1 cfm difference.

I'd start
with two Gorton #2 vents.
Yes, a 3/4" pipe will pass more air, but what we're trying to do is get a certain amount of air out of the steam main at a couple ounces pressure.
The Gorton #2 will vent 1.1 CFM at 1 ounce, 1.75 at 2 ounces. One of these vents should be enough, but remember all the boiler's steam output goes into this one main. In these cases I've had good luck doubling the venting capacity.
So, use 2 Gorton #2 vents.
