... can be either working steam pressure, or wet (as in not superheated) steam pressure, depending upon who's definition you're looking at. Either way, it's for saturated steam, not superheated.

WSP Rating on Ball Valves
WSP: Working Steam Pressure
Can a ball valve with this rating be used in a commercial kitchen on LP gas fed appliances?
A customer of ours states the Gas Company left these for him to make the connections. Any thoughts? Thank you for your help...

Valves
The proper rating is "WOG" -water, oil or gas.
Use valves specifically made for natural gas.
WSP I always believed is "water service pressure" but I may be wrong. But they are clearly not a gas-rated valve.0 -

Not all ball valves will be rated for natural gas service.

Is That
A yes or no?0 -
I Would...
... say that unless it's got some other marking, and/or a piece of paper indicating that it's been approved for gas installations, it would be "no".0 -
Can Anybody
Give me a straight accurate answer and back it up with documentation? This could save lives...
Thanks,

Rick,
If you know the valve manufacturer, why not contact them directly? This way you will get a definitive answer.

a.g.a.
on a recent installation of a weil-mclain commercial boiler a brass ball valve was factory furnished with the gas train. this seemed odd to me but weil-mclain knows best. i have always used a.g.a. rated valves for gas. on larger sizes [2 " & up ] plug valves are usually speced out. not sure if they are a.g.a. rated but are sure serious and costly.0 -
Not sure of MFG
A customer of ours posed this question to me. I called around, no one will put it in writing. Why? I have heard responses from mfg's ranging from no to maybe to yes...

The valve manufacture
will be able to supply a copy of all the listings for their valves.
Virtually every valve has a name tag or their name molded in the body somewhere.
I agree if it is used for gas service it should have those listings.
I use a lot of Jomar brand an have the cut sheets that show AGA, FM, UL and various others depending on the model of valve I chose.
If it's a nameless import you may be in for a "hunt"
hot rod

Brad,

What Does...
... the fuel utilization code for your jurisdiction say? The onus is on the owner/designer/installer to ensure that bits they're assembling meet the various codes & regulations. Any or all of these people have an obligation to ensure that the components they're using meet whatever code applies. This means asking the manufacturers to provide documentation showing proof of approvals by the inspection authority. No documentation means no approval means "no cigar". A manufacturer can't say "Show me where it says that I don't have the required approval". It doesn't work that way. The burden of proof lies with the manufacturer.0 -
you CAN use a WOG rated valve, if supplied by the Mfgr.
otherwise, AGA rated is the only approval for nat gas0 -
manufacturer vs. code
weil-mclain also supplies assorted bushings for their gas trains. any thoughts on that ?0
