Why is my sight glass so dirty?

When you flush the boiler you are only cleaning a portion of the whole heating system. You may want to try a steam clean such as Squick to clean up the system.

Why is my sight glass so dirty?

I regularly drain the furnace water and also the returns but the bottom third of my sight glass is very dirty even when the water I drain is clear. Any answers and a possible solution would be great. Thanks

Does the water in the glass jump a lot it could be that it is oil on top of the boiler water, you probably need a pro to skim the boiler.Any oil and dirt on top makes it hard for the steam to break through.

    Your sight glass is dirty...

    Because your water is dirty...

  • Pat, it may be necessary

to power-flush that boiler. There is probably a considerable amount of dirt and sludge on the bottom of the boiler. Simply draining it probably won't get rid of all the dirt.

This is a job for a pro.
