main vent
with about 48' 2" diameter of single main on a one-pipe system , i was told that the Hoffman #75 i had on my main was not adequate enough to get the air out and the steam out faster to the rad's. I was told to use a gorton's #2. So i purchased the Gorton and figured i replaced all of my rad vents with gortons. well the chorus i got from air coming from rad's was enough to drive u crazy. I immediatly put back my hoffman #75 and the maid o mists rad vents i originally had and all was quite again. What the bleep is up with that.0 -
Vents
The Gorton vent needs to be in a relatively cool spot or it won't reopen soon enough. If it can't cool to less than 150F between cycles I've seen it stay closed. I've found that repiping the vent a bit further away on properly pitched bare pipe helps. Use pipe as big as the mains vent tap.0 -
Where is the main steam vent located? 15" from the end of the main? right at the elbow? If it is right at the elbow (the very end) as many system are, I would use 2 75 (not 75H)- and crank down the pressure
