Thank you so much for responding so quickly. Who knows why you would even think of disposing of something like those. I appreciate the info.

Take care!

    close to being finished...

with this 3600 sq/ft residence and 5500 sq/ft indoor basketball court.

Matt J has been busy. 3 zones all low-temp radiant floor heat with the Caleffi hydrolink. We also have a 60 Gallon indirect.

The mechanical room is L shaped and there needed to be room for all of our equipment. We also had to contend with a steel support cable running right through where we intended to install our equipment. We hung some 3/4" melamine board for support and then Matt took over.

Drywallers come in next week so that we can complete the 1" DHW supply/return lines and then the whole project gets insulated.

Kudo's to Matt for once again doing soooo much with so little room. I will add some job pic's of the completed building in a week or two. It's a big steel building that is painted Brick Red. Stone face on the front facade of the residence. Pretty neat place.

Matt J has been busy. 3 zones all low-temp radiant floor heat with the Caleffi hydrolink. We also have a 60 Gallon indirect. A Lochinvar Knight KBN210 converted to LP is powering it all and providing sentry duty for DHW, outdoor-reset, and everything else that is STANDARD on the knight.

We also had to contend with a steel support cable running right through where we intended to install our equipment. We hung some 3/4" melamine board for support and then Matt took over. Running low on room, Matt really used his head in mounting the expansion tank. (See it?)

Drywallers come in next week so that we can complete the 1" DHW supply/return lines and then the whole project gets insulated. The electrical is still moving a little slow. 1 electrician is doing the whole place by himself.

    Very nice

Did you use the Hydrolink to save space, or is there another purpose?? Nice piping job. WW

    Hey Wayne,

I really wanted to try the hydrolink for potential space savings and to see if there was a time savings. With the pro-press fittings, it is a "wash", but the hydrolink is really nice for making the boiler loop into the system loop as well. The grundfos circ that is provided drops off when DHW calls, so it is a nice little package.

Our area of the mechanical room was 43" from wall to the front of the boiler, and from left to right, I think it was around 52-53 inches.

I like the hydrolink by Caleffi, but the next Knight residential multiple boiler job is going to get a Caleffi Hydro-separator.

Love the insulated split ring hangers. Also the stand hiding the extrol. Once again, nice looking, clean, & easy to service.

    Nice work Paul, and team!

some serious thought went into that piping layout.

It looks like you have double checked the Grundfos boiler circ? That looks like a B&G iso/check flange?

Here is another way to start offf the Hydrolink. I use 1" threaded iso flanges to start out. This eliminates a reducing coupling and threaded nipple. It further shortens the distance and elimanates a threaded connection. You can still use a 3/4 iso flange on the discharge side. $ wise it works out the same.

Also here is another way to go from pump flange to press iso valve. I use the Burnley copper flange with a press ball valve. Again it saves another threaded connection and adapter.

I wonder who will build the first Iso press valve? Webstone? Cimberio? Anybody?

Hope to see you at the races in June :)

You have sharp eyes. I did pull the integral flow check out of the grundfos before Matt put the Chek-trol flanges on. My personal preference is to have the integral checks on the isolation valves instead of the circ.

Those Burnley flanges look like the "Mountain" brand that I had previously sold. Whose "Press" valves are you using? The "Pro-Press" brand are a little spendy. I am looking for up to 2-1/2" valves, any ideas?

I will see you in June. My lovely bride and I will be stealing away to TN. Looking forward to it.

    press valves at

www.cimberio.com They seem to have the best line up of press valves, check valves, Y strainers, circuit setters, etc. Fairly good prices also.

I believe Jim sold his flanges invention to Burnley of Canada. Price has come down a bit and I now get them from Temperature Equipment in Chicago.

Curious about your preference of the check in the valve not the pump? The nice thing about the pump mounted check is service-ability. I have had solder and copper ream chips get into them from time to time. Simply remove the pump and clean out, or replace the check. Seem like that would be hard to do with the check in the ball valve. Far as I can tell it is the identical check.

That's a well thought out mechanical room. Me thinks that you need to get yourself a T-drill & Curvo. Neat. Really smart.

Not picking but, what kind of connections are you using on the white (MultiCor?) PAP tubing? I think we use to use the same crimps and tool provided by RTI before Upanor was using it. I'm unsure if it can be used on Upanor PAP. I know it will work on Kitec's PAP but the Wirsbo/Upanor tech services told me "no way".

You found me out. I love Wirsbo Pex-Al-Pex and I AM using the SSC crimp fitting with the Multicor. To me, it's the best of both worlds. It just takes a little bit of finess when making the crimp on ½". It doesn't work so well with ¾" Multicor. I didn't want this in the "limelight" so much in that I don't want Wirsbo on my case advising me of warranty issues telling me that multicor is not engineered for ssc fittings blah blah blah.

Funny you should mention the Curvo, I am currently looking at pricing and will make the plunge soon. I am hoping to score the 1¼" "head" like Hotrod procured.

Great job Paul and others! You should be proud of all your work (planning, preparation, and installation)! Meticulous work! (I'll bet Ike is proud!)

I especially like the insulation on the split rings, wye strainer before the boiler, isolation valves for circulators, and overall isolation of the system (future maintenance/repair)

May I have your permission to show others your work?

I am putting together a display for the Lochinvar Knight boiler for contractors and I think your job would be a wonderful job to show others how a great installation can look.

Did you purchase or make that stand? We have two going in very soon and I am just curious.

Not trying to start a war, but isn't it a no no to put duct tape on pex? I thought the tape had something in it that reacts with the tube. Very nice looking work by the way.

    Matt J?...where are you?

He should step forward, he is THE installer.

Bobby G, use whatever you need.

    Jim French,
those are adjustable aluminum stands from Lennox that a company was going to scrap. Can you believe that? They are perfect for my needs.

    EJW,
The duct tape over the pex was a temporary dust cover until a roll of 3/4" Hepex showed up and we could splice. We wound up moving a manifold because they had the nerve to want to put a wall up. Go figure.
