For all of you...
... contemplating thermal batteries, solar heating, reduced energy profiles, etc., the latest issue of Home Energy magazine is chock-a-block full of good articles, data, etc. to oogle at.
The first article showcases Davis' work at creating low-cost radiant heating and cooling systems that can be further researched at the RRDS energy site of the CA government.
The next cool article goes over the many ways in which mobile homes can have moisture, heating, etc. issues, and why.
The article on Sacramento's Zero Energy Home community highlights real-life data gained from building energystar homes with solar collectors and the effect it has on the electrical demand. It highlights the relatively modest changes they made to achieve their excellent results, including dampening the electrical demands a great deal during very hot periods.
For the thermal battery folk, there follows an article on an innovative housing project in Canada that installed 800 (!!!) solar hot water panels with 1.5MW peak capacity on the garage buildings and the use of the ground as a huge thermal battery. 100+ 100'+ bored and grouted wells add up to a lot of thermal mass to heat up over the summer and suck heat from during the winter. Between the R-2000 standard-quality homes and the collectors, they aim to be solely on solar heat 90% of the time.
So, for those of you with an interest in these issues, I suggest having a look at the magazine. Online copies can be found at the home energy web site.0 -
thanks Constantin
Looks like some good reading.....
