49 year old knee !!

Good luck with the bionic knees! My Mom had the hip done a few years back, and even though she was in her late 70's, she was up and around in no time. She said the secret was to follow exactly what the rehab doctors and therapists tell you to do. Most of the horror stories you hear have to do with boneheads who don't do the rehab work. You'll do great.

    Going under the knife

    on Monday..

I have had knee problems since an injury in high school and its come to that point. I can't take the constant pain so .... Monday morning I will have a partial knee replacement. They will install new minicus (sp) on the inside. I thought I'd be home that night but I may be in for a day :).

Going to line up some good books next to the bed. Hey what was the one you all spoke of About the OIL Crisis ??

    High School Injury indeed....

Call it what it really was, Scott - sheet burns :)

A co-worker had both replaced on the same day- full, no holding back. He was back golfing weeks later. This is indeed a great age. You are basically going in for a brake job and oil change by comparsion. Where are you having it done might I ask?

Today is my "annual" checkup (meaning it occurs within a given year whenever that is) and my 48 year old knee is on the list, so a timely reminder.

If you need some books, let me know.

Best of Luck, Scott- you will do fine.

And here I was thinking that the Miniscus was a function on my calculator that I never used....
  • knee ' d not worry

    Scott,

I am recouping from knee surgery (had an auto accident in December). In physical therapy now and doing much better .
No "knee'd " to worry too much about the surgery , just do as your told when it comes to rest and then therapy .

    Limp in

    dance out.

    You'll be fine.

As for books, I am currently reading Team of Rivals by Doris Goodwin and if you enjoy history at all it is highly recommended. Probably not for an overnighter but would be a good vacation read and it's something you can put down for a while and start up again.

    All the best Scott,

    Jack

The Long Emergency by Jim Kunstler may be the book you are talking about? I have heard only good reviews about it! Good luck on your operation, Hope you are back in action soon!

    Can they

put the new one in backwards? I think it might help you peddle that crazy bicycle of yours without showing us your nuts.

    Good luck, Chowda.

I've got a book for both of you!

One I just wrote: "How Opal Mehta Got Kissed, Got Wild and Got a Life". Oops. Sorry- It is not my idea, I just "internalized it".

I know with Chris at the tiller the company will be in great capable hands. Remember your doctor's advice though, Scott- stop kicking so much a--...

And have you noticed how with all of our advancing ages the wall-hung 100 to 150 lb. boilers *just* come to market? Not before Cast Iron did the knee damage... thanks a lot.

    Good Luck Scott

We live in an amazing age. Seems like only yesterday they were only talking about partial knee replacements. When I had minor knee surgery they had me mark the knee to be operated on with a sharpie before surgery so they didn't cut the wrong knee. Sheesh, No worries mate. :) WW

Your just a youngin so should be a snap. Happy reading.

Hey, just got a thought. Why dont you see if you can get internet access in the OR and just do a local, then you can chat on the wall and give us a blow by blow of the operation. I'm sure the doc won't mind.

Take it easy for a while and do everything the doc tells you (and those things that you want to do that he doesnt maybe too).

    As Howard Cossell said

"The Knee" "The Knee" "It's always the Knee"

good luck Scotty, leave those nurses alone, It's o.k. to fantasize though.

Read "Out of Gas" by David Goodstein, Trethewey recomended that one a few years ago and it is an amazing look and cronicle of our fuel situation.
  • Bending the Knee

Whenever I bend down to do something, it hurts. Has for almost 20 years now.

I wonder: do the hospitals have wireless high speed accessability these days availible for their patients rooms?

    I hope all goes well.

    My dad just had

a double bypass Wednesday. I called my step-mom Barbara's cell phone, she was about to hand it to him then remembered that he is not to use wireless devices. So I got the land-line number and called back.

May be a cardiac ICU thing with all of the telemetery and electronic monitoring, but I will hazard a guess that wireless will not be in hospitals except for limited areas.

Scott, my friend, you may again know the joys of dial-up this round!

Gary- I suggest you sweep the glass off your shop floor first. Give that a try... :)

I called out there and talked to Nurse Ratchet and staff. They will be on the lookout for you. They will have super cold hands when they give you the Barium Enema Im having donated.

Seriously, Godspeed in your recovery, I know those boys of yours will have you out playing ball in no time.

    Regards from Nebraska,

    heck of a note,

when the only day you ge to rest is in the surgical room....While Pauls free Barnum Ameoba may sound like a good deal keep your fingers crossed that the hospital adminisration gives it to the guy in the room next to you :)

keep an extra pair of pants around just in case you have to make an early departure...with bus fare in one pocket.

    I would recommend

    a modulating/condensing knee cap.

Stainless steel constuction of course, not cast iron.

Good luck Scott and a speedy recovery.

There's only one part of my body that doesn't hurt when I use it, but alas, no one will pay for the service. Still I am content with good will and reciprocation. Be happy: It could most definately be worse.
