steam heat under floor

if this is a one-pipe or two-pipe system. You can tell by looking at the radiators- if there's only one pipe going into each radiator, it's one-pipe. If there are two, it's two-pipe.

On a one-pipe system, lowering that return pipe shouldn't hurt. If two-pipe, it might.

    Steam heat return line

We want to raise a return line on our steam heat system in our basement. In order to do that, we have to reroute the pipe around the circuit box. As a result, the return pipe must run along or under the floor, below the main boiler unit. Is this a good idea? Will sediment collect? Our plumber assured us that older homes do it all the time.

    Thanks for the help.
