a horizontal combination flo-check/air separator. Once in a while I'll see one around here, they seem to do the job OK.

The circ was probably a Taco 110, a very nice circ that was probably oversized for that job. Bet you get better delta-T with the 007.

Nice job.

Did this one last weekend. Pretty basic. One split loop with monoflows, and a superstor.

Nice job. I like the black piping and the 45s to offset.

I bet you ran out of 1x1/2x1 inch copper, female, copper tees for the boiler drain on the indirect. I hate when that happens.

    Very nice jon

If I could get my helper to be as plumb as you I could trust him to work on his own more. I nag him that a level doesn't weigh much, he should pick it up once in a while. I have 2 questions that may be something or not. The flu pipe looks small for it's crock. Is it sealed where I can't see from the picture?? Also the baseboard return doesnt have a flo control valve that I can see. If it's not there you could get one pipe convection up the return to the baseboard in the summer whenever the hot water calls. Keep up the good work. WW

    Just one thing Jon

Thats a fine looking job!! nice piping, where are the clean outs located and are they easy to get to so the servicemen can do a good thurough jod each year at tune up time? one thing i always try to do install it as if i was comming back each year to do the tune up. nothing more frustrating than having to move relays, wire, or try to fit my big butt between the wall(or anything else) and the boiler.

    nice work

Nice work love the bell ,split ring and cowboys for emt it seems hardly anybody really supports there stuff hats off to you plumb and square thumbs up .! thing though on your water feed into your air elimator you should use brass instead of steel ,the steel gets rusted out in a short time and on a service call you end up replacing the feeder and the nipplles other wise great stuff keep up the nice work peace clammy ps sorry if those are brass peace

This picture with the Weil boiler has 2 really old Taco Products.
The circulator(you can just see the motor behind the boiler,) must be 1950's or early 60's. The other green thing must be an air elim. or something.
Would it be possible to get the data on these things, maybe even switch them out for new ones? Always interested in our history.

Next time I’m over there I’ll snap a pic of the air separator thingy. The circ is deep in the trash.

Did it also work as an air separator? It was connected to the old expansion tank.

I am admititly anal on flow control so grain of salt time, however... I don't think the return from the indirect is any problem at all. You can look and see the heat can only travel up to the top of the pipe and then it has no place to go. The return pipe of the baseboard loop however may have possibilities for some ghost flow. Imagine in the Summer when the boiler is hot from making some domestic Hot water. Because three is a flow check on the supply you will not get a thermosiphon loop going so that is a good thing, but I have witnessed single pipe convection where the hot water goes up the middle of the pipe and the cold water comes down the sides. To make things simple set up a situation where the baseboard has been off and is cold and then run the indirect. After the indirect is done running feel the return pipe from the baseboard over the course of 10 or 15 minutes and see if you have any monolaminar convection, (that's the 25 cent word for it) Once again. Nice work. You obviously care enough to do a good job. WW
