Opinions on Near-Cond Boiler?

The whine of any of those models, especially as compared to the Ultra.

BESIDES, I know that 87% figure is BS and the Ultra will run cheaper than the 5-10% the AFUE #'s indicate.

Only rich people can afford cheap boilers. $500 now or $500 a year more forever ? Hmmmmm.

Hi Gang,

What is the general opinion on the 87%+/- CI boilers? My wife won the money battle and our new home will have the super efficient Pella Designer windows, U=0.25, internal blinds and all that so options are needed for the hydronics. These Pella's are awesome for controlling sunlight and limiting summer heat gain. R=4 doesn't hurt either!

Anyway, I am thinking about the Weil-McLain GV-3, CGs-3 and Utica USC-3. There may be more and feel free to tell me so. I only need 40-45 IBR or so. I've considered the Dunkirk Q90-50, but am not convinced it is worth the premium over a regular CI boiler.

If you add in the price....

of the S/S vent pipe, the outdoor reset control, and the price of hearing the wife whine because the GV doesn,t modulate and you ain't as comfy as you could be.....


You could have an Ultra, and have it all for about 100 bucks more.....

sounds like a no-brainer to me.....
