looks like
just under the center of the arrow it says steam ****** the flash covered the rest, so it could also be a steam pressure gauge, now looking closer and seeing that 1 through 5 are marked off, I would most defiantely say its a steam pressure gauge, and the word steam is a big plus on the face. The purpose is to tell you the pressure within the boiler0 -
The gage is on a 60+ year old Weil McClain
steam boiler. The boiler is still humming
but I think the gage is shot.

Does that say
"steam vapor"?0 -
AND...it says Steam 'Vapor' where the flash obscured
the word.0 -
ITSA~
Steam gage for an vapor steam system . The idea here is the low increments marked at 5#'s and below. Most steam heating boilers were set at 1# or less, operating pressuer. Noel of Slant Fin can espouse upon this magnificnetly!0 -
what you got there is a BLOWN steam gauge0 -
I've got one like that
Except the pointer is bent on mine from Way too much vacuum when the boiler was converted to gas and the vents didn't or weren't designed to open. Too bad gauges of that quality aren't available today.0 -
You're right
it's a steam pressure gauge with the scale arranged so the increments between 1-5 PSI are easier to see. Unfortunately, the pointer being where it is tells me the gauge is kaput. Replace it, and add a pigtail to the new one.
