I can see some real inovative installs happening in the near future. I especially like the opportunities of modular integration with existing air systems. Excellent presentation Mike.

  • Went to class today

Saw the new tekmar system. I'm pretty impressed. It eliminates the Zone relay box, solves a BUNCH of problems when combining high temp zones with low temp zones.

Nice time scheduling features that will make EVERYONE pleased.

Nice package, small and compact, and adaptable to all different type systems.

Nice to have A/C controls integrated with it. Nice box with metal knockouts in it. Nice method for expanding the number of zones, with a second box like the first one, side by side. Nice look. Nice for connecting to.

Nice interfaces for connecting modulating boilers, and other automation systems already out there.

Good job, presenting it, Paul. Thanks, also, to Rathe Associates for putting it on.

Mike, What's the latest on when it will be available? I seem to remeber hearing Fall '05, is that still the case?

Except for the 423 - Three Water Temperature System Control. It will follow in the Fall.

  • More thoughts about it...

It's a new concept, tekmar will be making one panelbox, and YOU pick the modules and accessories that go with it.

The class was a whole bunch of listening, scowling, wondering where he was going, then LIGHT BULB!!! What a brilliant solution!!! It networks a whole bunch of features together. It is switchable to adapt one system to almost ANY combination of components, including hot and cold air, and HRVs and ERVs.

It balances per cent of load (selectable) between first stage and second stage heating, so the floors can be modulated back in areas that are cold at night and warm in the day (as in tekmar's own factory) By putting a higher percentage on stage 2 heat, on a thick slab in or out of the sun, they can back off the heat fast in the morning when they fire up all of the equipment and it overshoots because of the slab flywheel. Sweet!

In the old days, one zone was the "tekmar" zone, and the Argo or Taco panel just operated the other zones.

In tN4, that zone will not always be the same zone. If you have a high heat gain ( solar, equipment, or people) in the zone that used to run the longest, the thing will target a different zone, and lower the water temp to make the NEW, coldest zone run almost constant circ. The other zones open and close normally. It follows the coldest zone around the building as it changes. SWEET!

It tries to start all of the zones at the same time, every 15 minutes, to avoid short cycling the boiler. One zone runs the whole 15 minutes, due to the low water temperature. The others close or stop when satisfied.

It interfaces with DDC systems, or dial-up alarms. Internet and e-mail connections coming soon. Hell, all of it is coming soon. You can't buy one yet, as I understand.

You don't need a school to install one, but the school sure shows what one will do. It makes one aware of all of the possibilities.

    Thanks to Mike

I just got back from the same class held in Regina. I can't say enough about the new controls. And Mike did a superb job (even with a headache, lol).

i was at the same class...excited!..want the stuff yesterday...

feel sorry for you guys, there is so much you can do with this stuff, it must be sheer agony trying to choose what ships sooner than later - boy can you go places with this stuff!!! – also, delineating yourselves from DDC systems was a neat marketing move, KEW-EL!

Ps: I want every piece of doc you produce - even if preliminary – at end there should be a downloadable CD of the whole site, - including training

    ideas:
perhaps instead of waiting until the fall for the 423 - we can get a multi-modulating expansion module sooner

need humidistat - for "enthalpy" to adjust temp curves - and also to control humidification/dehumidification equipment

docs need to be clearer about how a two-stage tstat controls 2 terminal units types at different “bus” temps - and what "data" types go across busses like the outdoor sensor info does

perhaps tekmar should sell a conectorized pre-polarized 24v Xformer – for supplemental VA – especially on the 6zone module – in same vain – zone units should have, on the 24v output, a current sense bar with led shunt – that starts to glow when the va used, gets above 85%

    Noel and Rich

Thanks for the great remarks you guys!! "listen to the Market" is the slogan of tekmar Controls Sales & Marketing Department.

It sure was a pleassure seeing you again, Rich. Too bad you couldn't stay for a little while afterwards. A couple of the Crane Boys stopped by to say hello. Anyway, shoot me an email with your number for my outing to Moose Jaw later on this summer. Maybe we can catch up again then.

    Best Regards,

    Mike

    Now I'm really looking forward...

To my Tekmar edu-ma-kshun on Tuesday the 3rd of flower month. I am going to show up early to get a front row seat. That way, I get to touch the "Budah" first!

  • hey mike, on the new controls, does "boiler minimum" REALLY mean "boiler minimum"? ;)

Did you guys make the game? I heard Brandon beat the pads off 'em. So .... did the two of you help the town celebrate?

    tn4

I attended one of the many tn4 classes and was very impressed with the new stuff. Am already quoting this product and can not wait to get my hands on some of it.

    Well, we did....

...make it to town in time for the game, but we decided not to go since only standing room was available. Instead we started the celebrations ahead of the crowd in a pub right next to the arena.

I guess now that Brandon is in the Final and I left town..."GO ROCKETS GO!!" :D
